The trip started on foot, on steep, wet trails through the dense forest of Bwindi, until the guides stopped and the first gorillas sat a few meters away in the undergrowth. An hour with a family: a silverback watching calmly, mothers with their young, juveniles rolling around in the leaves.
After that the landscape opened up. By car through the savanna, where lions rest in the grass in Ishasha, a leopard watches from the thicket and buffalo lie in the mud. Some of the most interesting moments came at the edges of the day: early mornings in the swamp with the shoebill, evenings at the river, and the hours after dark.
At the end, Ziwa: white rhinos, on foot and only a short distance away.
